Elevating Education to a Strategic Safeguarding Partner
Client Description
A Local Children’s Safeguarding Partnership.
Summary of client
A statutory multi-agency safeguarding partnership looking to deeply engage the education sector, elevate school leadership into strategic decision-making, and secure comprehensive representation across all educational provisions within the region.
Summary of client requirements (what they asked for, why they asked for it)
The partnership required expert leadership and structural intervention to:
- Engage Education: Bridge the gap between statutory partners (Health, Police, Local Authority) and the education sector.
- Ensure Sector-Wide Representation: Secure a unified voice representing the entire diverse education landscape (early years, primary, secondary, special, and post-16 settings).
- Advance Strategic Status: Work deliberately toward establishing education as an equal, strategic safeguarding partner rather than just an operational stakeholder.
What I provided.
Delivered a complete structural framework, workshop facilitation, and executive representation:
- Partnership Workshop Delivery: Designed and ran an interactive multi-agency workshop outlining exactly how to form a dedicated Education Sub-Group and defining the expectations for collaborative child protection.
- Structural Mobilization: Formally established the Education Sub-Group to institutionalize communication and governance pathways.
- Executive-Level Leadership: Stepped into the role of independent Chair for the sub-group and acted as the primary Education Representative on the Executive Partnership Board alongside other Designated Statutory Partners (DSPs).
- Multi-Agency Liaison: Spearheaded ongoing liaison between external safeguarding agencies and local educational safeguarding leads to coordinate joint initiatives.
Key Results
The initiative successfully structurally re-engineered how the local authority and schools interact:
- Amplified Education Voice: Established a formalized framework where the education sector is actively heard, consulted, and woven into high-level strategic decision-making.
- Cohesive Representation: Replaced isolated communication siloes with a unified, cross-sector educational network.
- Elevated Governance: Secured a literal “seat at the table” on the Executive Partnership Board, positioning educational context as a core component of the region’s overarching safeguarding strategy.
- Long-Term Pupil Safety: Laid the foundational infrastructure required to transition the local system toward a more robust model where children ultimately will be safer as multi-agency collaboration matures over the coming cycles.
Testimonial
By establishing the Education Sub-Group and securing representation on the Executive Board, we have shifted education from an operational bystander to a strategic driver. The groundwork is now laid for an integrated, multi-agency network where children are fundamentally safer.
